ALICIA J. BROWN, PSYCHOTHERAPIST
ALICIA J. BROWN, LCSW-S
Helping individuals and couples deepen their understanding of themselves and their relationships
ABOUT ALICIA
I will work with you to understand how the varied experiences you've encountered along life's path affect the ways in which you feel, think, and act in the present. Together, we will identify patterns of thinking and relating to others that adversely affect your satisfaction with your life. And we will find ways to enhance your connections to others and understanding of yourself so that the changes you make will last.
I believe you will experience me as genuine, curious, and direct. Together, we will challenge old assumptions and create new ways of approaching problems, relationships, and life in general. The work we do in therapy is serious and it is hard; that said, it's tremendously rewarding, and in our work, we will likely find ourselves laughing a lot. Here, you will experience acceptance and connection that I believe will make the relationships in your life easier to navigate and more rewarding.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (and Supervisor) in Texas, Pennsylvania, and Washington, D.C., and I work with clients in all of these locations through teletherapy (and in-person with clients at my office outside Philadelphia). In addition to the years I have spent in the private practice setting, I have worked as a therapist in a college counseling center, an Intensive Outpatient Program, and an inpatient psychiatric hospital with active duty soldiers with PTSD. Throughout my career, I have assisted clients in addressing depression, anxiety, traumatic experiences, addiction, and relationship difficulties through individual, couples, and group therapy.

A bit more about me, for your reference:
I received my B.A. in Political Science from Barnard College, Columbia University in 2003, after which I worked as a political and policy consultant in Washington D.C. and New York City, and later in the non-profit world in the U.S. and abroad. I then completed my M.S.S.W. at the University of Texas at Austin and have been working as a psychotherapist for the last decade. I have completed advanced training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD (and am a Certified Provider) and regularly attend professional trainings around the country to continue my development as a psychotherapist and to learn about advances in the discipline. These varied experiences all inform my practical approach to tackling challenges in my clients’ lives.
SERVICES
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
Our early life experiences and formative relationships are the blueprint upon which we build and experience our lives.  Sometimes, it's helpful to examine the blueprint, create a shift in perspective, and re-evaluate how the lives we've built both reflect and diverge from what we really want.
COUPLES THERAPY
So often, the ways we relate to the people we love are loaded with historical baggage that we don't recognize in our own actions or in the actions of our partners.  Deepening our understanding of ourselves and each other can create a new paradigm for communication and connection.
FAMILY CONSULTATION
When we get stuck in a pattern that's not working, we often feel helpless to end it or to imagine a different way forward. Â With diverging needs, families may struggle to communicate and connect. Â Creating a space for reflection and communication can help us to meet one another's needs and find a new language for expressing concern and care.
Contact me today to set up your personal consultation.
